- Coronary heart disease also referred to as cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and most of the developed world. Nearly 2600 americans die of CVD every day, an average of one death every 34 seconds. High blood pressure, physical inactivity, stress and obesity are lifestyle factors that play a role in the development of CHD.
- Cancer is a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. It can be caused by both external and internal factors. Scientific evidence suggests that about one third of cancer deaths can be directly related to nutrition, physical inactivity and overweight or obesity.
- Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Over 18.2 million Americans have Diabetes, of which 90-95% are type 2. Type 2 diabetes also known as adult-onset diabetes can often be managed or even avoided by implementing lifestyle modifications such as diet and exercise.
- Osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease is the leading cause of disability in the Unites States. Over 21 million Americans suffer from osteoarthritis. This disease can be minimized to some extent by exercise and avoiding obesity.
